Registrations for the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme start today (13 July 2020).
A new discount scheme to support restaurants, pubs and cafes was announced last week by Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and registations go live today (Monday 13th July).
The schemes hopes to encourage support their local businesses by encouraging people to safely return to dining out, thereby protecting jobs in the hospitality industry. Restaurants, bars, cafes and other establishments who use the scheme will be able to offer a 50% reduction, up to a maximum of £10 per person, to all diners who eat and/or drink-in throughout August.
How will it work?
- Customers do not need a voucher as participating establishments will just remove the discount from their bill.
- Businesses simply reclaim the discounted amount through an online service, supported by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
- Claims can be made on a weekly basis and will be paid into bank accounts within five working days.
- Businesses will receive a window sticker to show they are using the scheme and can download promotional items from GOV.UK.
- The scheme is open to eligible establishments across the UK and can be used all day, every Monday to Wednesday, between 3 and 31 August 2020.
Welcoming the scheme, James Wild MP said -
Norfolk has many of the finests pubs, restaurants and hospitality businesses in Britain who have been hit hard by Coronavirus.
It is important that we all have the confidence to support local firms. I hope this scheme encourages residents and visitors to dine out at their favourite spots and to support local jobs .
I encourage eligible local businesses to register as soon as possible so that they are ready for 3rd August.
