Speaking in a House of Commons debate on welfare reform, James Wild MP highlighted rising unemployment under the Labour Government, that sickness benefit claims are now twice the pre-Covid rate, and health and disability spending is set to hit £100 billion by the end of this Parliament.
He criticised the government’s lack of serious reform, contrasting it with the previous Conservative Government’s record of creating 4 million jobs, halving youth unemployment, and helping a million more disabled people into work. James called for a welfare system that helps people up, not holds them down, urging real reform to get people back into work and backed the opposition’s plan to deliver £23 billion in welfare savings.
