James Wild MP has welcomed a proposed solution to an unexpected rise in the cost of diverting gas mains which had threatened to delay the A10 West Winch Housing Access Road in West Norfolk.
Norfolk County Council’s Cabinet is considering a way forward that would enable the finalising of an agreement with partner Homes England to provide additional funding to cover the majority of the up to £24.5 million National Gas estimate for diverting two high pressure gas mains. This would remove a major obstacle to the scheme progressing on timetable as the diversion work, due to take place ahead of main construction, is essential to allow the new road to be built.
Commenting on the progress, James Wild MP said:
“I’ve been working with Norfolk County Council and raising concerns with National Gas around these costs, and I am pleased the council has now identified a way forward for this critical road.
“Having long campaigned in Parliament and locally for the A10 West Winch Housing Access Road, this is another important step towards delivering the infrastructure local people need to improve safety and support new homes and jobs in West Norfolk.”
