James Wild MP has welcomed progress on plans to deliver two new Active Travel Hubs in King’s Lynn, designed to make it easier for people to choose healthier, greener, and more affordable ways to travel in and around the town centre.
The Borough Council will soon submit a planning application for new facilities providing high-quality, secure cycle parking at King’s Lynn Enterprise Park and Baker Lane car park.
The new Enterprise Zone Hub will include secure cycle parking, e-bike and scooter charging, personal lockers, six electric vehicle charging points, and nearby bus stops on Nar Ouse Way. Meanwhile, the Baker Lane Hub will provide secure cycle storage, lockers, and e-cycle charging close to the High Street for commuters and shoppers.
These schemes complement the King’s Lynn Transport Strategy and other active travel initiatives, including improvements around Southgates and the Bus Service Improvement Plan, as part of the wider regeneration of the town.
As a runner, cyclist, and advocate of an active lifestyle, James has consistently championed sustainable transport that supports healthier choices. The hubs will form part of the £25 million Town Deal programme, which he helped secure and continues to support through his role on the King’s Lynn Neighbourhood Board.
Commenting on the announcement, James Wild MP said:
"These new Active Travel Hubs represent an important step forward in making King's Lynn a cleaner, greener and better-connected place for residents and visitors.
I’m pleased to see this progress as part of the £25 million Town Deal regeneration programme, which I have supported through my role on the King’s Lynn Neighbourhood Board and in helping secure funding for the town. These investments are continuing to make a real difference for our community.”
Councillor Alistair Beales, the Council Leader, said:
"We are seeking to make it easier for more people to cycle, walk and bus into and around King's Lynn town centre, where possible, creating a cleaner, greener and better-connected place for residents and visitors. Active and sustainable travel is better for residents' health and wellbeing, better for the environment, more affordable and reduces congestion. While we know this is not an option for everyone, or for every journey, these hubs are designed to be accessible and flexible, providing essential infrastructure to support active travel choices and reduce reliance on cars."
