James Wild MP has welcomed the completion of the land purchase to the north of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site, marking an important step forward in the practical preparations for a new QEH.
The 36.5-acre site will be used as a contractor compound for the duration of the build, allowing construction work to proceed safely and with minimal disruption to the existing hospital and its patients. Once construction is complete, the land will also be used to generate renewable energy for the new hospital and support habitat improvements.
The land purchase follows a series of enabling steps, including the approval of plans for the new multi-storey car park, which is due to begin construction in July and will allow the new hospital to be built on the site of the current main car park.
James Wild MP said:
“This land purchase is another important step forward. Having the contractor compound in place to the north of the site means we can get on with building the new hospital while keeping the current hospital fully operational.
“With the multi-storey car park due to start construction in July, these enabling works are coming together nicely to allow the main build to proceed.
“I'll keep working with local partners to ensure we maintain this momentum and deliver the modern hospital North West Norfolk deserves.”
