The programme to deliver a new QEH has taken another important step forward with the appointment of Skanska UK as the contractor responsible for building the new hospital.
The appointment has been made through the NHS Hospital 2.0 Alliance, which brings together NHS organisations and industry partners to improve the way new hospitals are designed and built, helping to reduce delays and deliver modern healthcare facilities more efficiently. Skanska has a proven track record working in healthcare and has previously worked on other hospitals, including Barts Health NHS Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Royal Derby Hospital.
Skanska will also deliver the new James Paget hospital in Great Yarmouth. Having the same contractor working on both projects will improve efficiency in supply chains while ensuring consistency in design and delivery.
The appointment follows good progress on the new build project with construction having started on the new £39 million multi-storey car park which is the key project that will enable the new hospital to be built on the existing car park
A new QEH is James' top priority and he has pressed ministers to ensure funding remains in place so the project can move forward. The new QEH remains on track to open between 2032 and 2033 as part of the New Hospital Programme.
