James Wild MP has welcomed Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board’s announcement that extra NHS dental appointments are now available. The appointments form part of a national programme to deliver 700,000 additional urgent slots.
The additional appointments are for people who need urgent or unscheduled dental treatment, but who do not have a regular dentist.
People who need urgent dental care should contact NHS 111 online or by phone. You do not need to be registered with a dental practice to access this service.
Sadie Parker, Director of Primary Care for NHS Norfolk and Waveney, said:
“We know how distressing urgent dental problems can be, and we don’t want people putting off getting help. We currently have urgent dental appointments available locally, and we would really encourage anyone who needs care now to come forward and use them.”
A representative of Norfolk and Waveney ICB said that urgent appointments were being put to good use after receiving a big increase in capacity last October with 28 more dental practices offering urgent appointments.
James commented on the availability of the new appointments:
“While these urgent appointments are welcome, I know that many families still face real challenges accessing routine NHS dentistry. I will continue putting pressure on the government to make sure they deliver lasting improvements for dental care in North West Norfolk”
James has repeatedly raised the issue of NHS dentistry in Parliament and with Ministers, pressing for long-term improvements in workforce recruitment, retention, funding, and local dental training to ensure patients can access routine and urgent care.
