Norfolk Police faces a £3 million funding shortfall in the government's latest police funding settlement. Despite ministers claiming a national increase in officer numbers, Chief Constable Paul Sanford warned that the settlement provides funding covering less than half the true cost of new officers, forcing the force to make cuts elsewhere and reduce frontline policing.
Commenting on the government's police funding settlement, James Wild MP said:
"The government has said they are increasing police numbers nationally, yet Norfolk faces a funding shortfall which the Chief Constable has warned means fewer officers on our streets. Norfolk Police have helped fight crime however this settlement ignores the demands of a large rural county. I will continue to press for a proper settlement that reflects our needs."
