This week, James Wild MP toured the newly opened Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital which is a significant investment in local healthcare to offer more checks, scans, and earlier diagnosis of conditions.
The state-of-the-art facility, which has come as part of a £85.9 million investment by the previous government in the three acute hospitals across Norfolk and Waveney, and will help reduce waiting times by providing faster access to diagnostic tests.
As one of 40 new CDCs opening across England, the centre is expected to serve over 40,000 outpatients in its first year, offering cutting edge imaging technology from MRI and CT scans, to X-ray and ultrasound. It will play a key role in diagnosing and monitoring conditions such as cancer and respiratory illnesses, improving patient outcomes while easing pressure on hospital services.
James welcomed the new facility, highlighting its importance in delivering quicker diagnoses and better care for patients and speaking after his visit he said:
“I was impressed by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s new community diagnostic centre which offers more checks and scans with the latest equipment enabling patients to get treated sooner. This underlines how new facilities benefit both patients and staff which is why a new QEH remains my priority, and the government needs to go faster and stick to the 2030 deadline.”
