James Wild has welcomed the beginning of work to refurbish a former warehouse into new facilities as part of the £25 million Town Deal to revive the historic riverfront.
The annexe of the former Sommerfeld and Thomas warehouse will be rebuilt and repurposed as dryside facilities for visiting mariners. The renovation is part of a wider initiative to encourage greater use of the river and attract visitors to Lynn and West Norfolk. Projects will be funded by investments secured by James Wild MP through the King’s Lynn Town Deal.
The project will provide a boost to the amenities available to leisure craft owners using the pontoons and to visitors to the town’s historic waterfront.
The scheme forms part of the wider King’s Lynn Town Deal regeneration programme secured with Government. The new dryside project is one of several supported by the deal, with other projects including the new Library, St George’s Guildhall and the adult skills hub.
Through his work as a member of the King’s Lynn Neighbourhood Board, James has supported this project to boost Lynn’s economy, which aligns with the wider ‘Sail the Wash’ initiative to promote King’s Lynn and neighbouring coastal destinations as attractive and accessible stopping points for visiting mariners.
James Wild MP said:
“This project is a great example of what the King’s Lynn Town Deal is about — breathing new life into underused historic buildings, improving facilities for visitors, and helping our town realise its full potential.
“I have worked hard to secure and protect investment for King’s Lynn, and it’s positive to see that funding now being turned into practical improvements that will benefit residents, visitors and local businesses. The river has always been at the heart of King’s Lynn’s history, and this is another step towards making it a bigger part of the town’s future.”
