Speaking to LBC News, James criticised Labour’s failure on illegal immigration despite pledging to “smash the gangs” and set out the Conservative alternative of reinstating a deterrent policy to stop dangerous Channel crossings. He also highlighted the issue of asylum seekers being housed in hotels and the need to reduce reliance on this approach.
On the economy, he pointed to the rise in inflation as a result of the Chancellor’s Autumn Budget which has added to the pressures on working families and made it harder for businesses to thrive.
