James Wild MP has questioned the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting MP, over the impact of £18 million in budget cuts imposed on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.
Speaking in the House of Commons, James highlighted concerns that forcing QEH to make these savings at a time when the hospital is under significant pressure risks undermining efforts to reduce waiting times for A&E and cancer services, particularly following the hospital’s ranking in the new NHS league table.
James pressed the Health Secretary on what assessment had been made of how forced savings would affect the hospital’s ability to meet its targets, emphasising that greater transparency in NHS data should be used to drive improvement.
Speaking in the House of Commons, James Wild MP said:
"Greater transparency in NHS data should be used to drive improvement so what assessment has the Health Secretary made of the impact on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn of being forced to make savings of 18 million pounds this year on the need to reduce waiting times for A&E and cancer as identified in the league table he published?"
In response, the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting MP, said:
"Mr Speaker, we're putting 26 billion more pounds into the NHS this year, investment that was opposed by the party opposite."
