James Wild MP recently visited the newly reopened Coach and Horses pub in Dersingham to meet owners Nick and Mandy Suiter, tour the refurbishment, and discuss the future of the hospitality sector.
A well known village pub since 1845, the Coach and Horses has been revived by Nick and Mandy, alongside co-owners Tom and Jenna Suiter, after more than a year’s closure. Since reopening in October 2024, it features a modernised bar and restaurant, improved facilities, and eight individually styled guest rooms - blending its historic character with a refreshed ambiance and a focus on local produce and suppliers.
During his visit, James spoke with the owners about challenges and opportunities in the sector, including staffing, recent alcohol duty changes, and the ongoing necessity to support small businesses. Hospitality accounts for a third of local employment, making it integral to the area’s economy and community.
These issues align with issues James has consistently raised in Parliament, including the impact of business rates, employment costs, and rising overheads. He remains committed to working alongside local businesses to secure support to help them prosper.
Pub owner, Nick Suiter, said:
"What a pleasure it was to show James what we have done at The Coach. We are so pleased that he is doing all he can within the Commons to ensure that the hospitality industry in West Norfolk is given a voice. As it covers over 20% of all jobs in the area, it is so important going forward that all issues within the industry are addressed. It was also great fun to see James pouring a pint of real ale behind the bar."
James Wild MP said:
“It’s fantastic to see the Coach and Horses brought back to life by Nick, Mandy, and their team. Pubs are at the heart of our villages - creating jobs, supporting local suppliers, and bringing people together. I’ll keep working to ensure they have the support needed to thrive.”
