James Wild MP presses for tougher action as Clenchwarton fly-tipping continues despite recent clear-ups and prosecutions

James Wild MP is pressing for stronger action to tackle the persistent issue of fly-tipping and illegal waste burning in Clenchwarton which has been blighting the village and local environment.

Despite the removal of around 65 tonnes of dumped rubbish by the borough council from a lay-by in the village in March, constituents have continued to raise concerns with James about further dumping and fires.

James has raised these issues with the Environment Agency and the council to back the ongoing action and press for further practical steps to prevent more fly-tipping. While measures such as new signage have been put in place, James supports further action, such as CCTV monitoring, alongside enforcement action already under way through the courts.

The Environment Agency has already taken enforcement steps including a Stop Notice and Restriction Order. The Environment Agency has confirmed prosecutions last year resulted in two convictions for dumping waste on Clockcase Lane, a further individual is due to stand trial next month, live arrest warrants remain in place for two suspects who failed to appear in court, and further action is underway.

James will continue to work closely with constituents, the Environment Agency and will be meeting the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk to talk about how to prevent fly-tipping protects residents and the local environment.

Commenting, James Wild MP said:

“Fly-tipping and illegal waste burning in is unacceptable and blights the lives of residents and damage our local environment.

“Prosecutions and the recent clear-up are welcome but the fact that fly-tipping has continued shows that more must be done. I will continue working with the Environment Agency and the borough council to ensure robust enforcement against those responsible and further steps are taken to deter illegal activity.”
