On Wednesday 21 May, James Wild MP featured as a guest on Sky News’ PMQs panel to respond to Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s comments about making changes to winter fuel payment cuts. He criticised the decision for its lack of clarity and for coming too late to support the most vulnerable pensioners this winter.
Despite the announcement, there has been no apology or clear explanation of what changes Labour intends to implement, nor confirmation that these will be in place in time to benefit pensioners this winter. The original policy excluded millions of pensioners cutting up to £300 they relied on annually.
Having been consistent and vocal in his opposition to their withdrawal, James emphasised that the cuts were a political choice, not a financial necessity, and urged the government to provide full transparency and ensure the reversal delivers real support to those who need it most.
