James Wild MP is urging local residents to participate in the public consultation on National Grid’s updated proposals for the Grimsby to Walpole project featuring an overhead electricity transmission scheme forming part of the Great Grid Upgrade.

The proposals include approximately 90 miles of new high-voltage overhead lines and new substations, including one near Walpole in North West Norfolk

The statutory Stage 2 consultation runs from 12 noon on Wednesday 11 June to 11:59pm on Wednesday 6 August 2025. Residents and stakeholders are invited to review detailed plans covering overhead lines, substations, construction areas, and environmental mitigation measures, and to provide feedback.

National Grid will also host 12 in-person public information events and 5 webinars, from which the feedback gathered will inform the final application, and will be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for development consent.

James has consistently raised concerns in Parliament opposing the scale of the proposals and their potential impact on local communities and the landscape. He has questioned the early dismissal of underground options, urged proper consideration of upgrading existing infrastructure, and called for a more transparent, coordinated approach that reflects local views and delivers meaningful benefits.

James Wild MP said:

“These are significant proposals that would affect Walpole and the wider area and I have opposed the scale of infrastructure being proposed and its impact on residents. Any new grid infrastructure should minimise the impact on local residents and our countryside and I encourage residents to use this consultation to make their concerns and opinions heard.”
