James Wild MP comments on local government reorganisation plans for Norfolk:
“My focus is on achieving the best approach for West Norfolk residents and businesses, as well as the wider county. My priorities are ensuring efficient, accountable, and financially sustainable services reflecting local needs.
“A single unitary approach has certain advantages including in terms of simplified arrangements with a strong county wide voice.
“However, local identity is important so I support creating a new unitary authority for West Norfolk that offers the potential for more localised and innovative services, greater accountability, and to support economic opportunities.
“Any model has to be financially sustainable for the long term which I have been assured is the case for a three unitary model. That has been a key factor in my decision.
“In taking forward plans for consultation, the government must be confident proposals are sustainable for residents and put in place arrangements to ensure that.
“I look forward to local people and businesses having their say.”
