As part of his ongoing efforts to champion rural enterprise, James Wild MP visited Cobble Hill Vineyard & Winery to meet Head Winemaker Rachel Lee and farm owner Robert Perowne, discussing the business’ operations, winemaking philosophy, and growing role in Norfolk’s rural economy.
Cobble Hill is an award-winning boutique vineyard set across 3.6 hectares on the outskirts of Burnham Market. The Perowne family, who have farmed the land for generations, planted the first vines in 2016, selecting Bacchus, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for the south-facing, chalk-rich slopes and distinctive coastal microclimate.
During the visit, James toured the restored barn-turned-winery and explored the processes behind Cobble Hill’s still and sparkling wine. They also discussed challenges facing local businesses.
He tasted some of the winery’s most acclaimed wines, including the Bacchus range, recognised in the WineGB East Region Awards and which are sold in local markets, farm shops, restaurants, and other venues.
Speaking after the visit, James Wild MP said:
“Cobble Hill is a fine example of a family run vineyard making the most of Norfolk’s landscape and producing award-winning wines that pair so well with local seafood, cheeses and other produce. It was clear how much passion and hard work goes into producing the wines.
“This is exactly the kind of rural enterprise that deserves our backing in showcasing the best of what Norfolk has to offer.”
Cobble Hill continues to welcome visitors for tours and tastings. For more information, including how to book a visit, see https://cobblehillnorfolk.com
