Speaking during Transport questions in the House of Commons, James Wild MP pressed the government to intervene over the repeated cancellations and poor service facing passengers on the Fen line from King's Lynn.
He highlighted that constituents have been enduring frequent cancellations and disruption on the line, with many passengers contacting him to raise concerns about the impact this unreliable service is having on their daily journeys. Great Northern is also rejecting passengers delay repay claims for submitting so many so frequently - despite season ticket holders and daily commuters facing multiple delays.
With Great Northern services having transferred into public ownership on 31 May, he noted that ministers now control both the track and the trains, and are therefore directly accountable for turning around the poor performance.
James Wild MP said:
“Passengers on the Fen Line from King's Lynn are suffering repeated cancellations and an unacceptably poor level of service. Now that the Government control both the track and the trains, will the Transport Secretary intervene and demand a robust action plan to sort out this poor performance?”
In response, the Transport Secretary, Heidi Alexander MP, acknowledged the concerns James raised on behalf of local constituents and said:
“On the particular issues with the Fen Line that the hon. Gentleman raises on behalf of his constituents, I will seek more information about what is causing the problems there and what plans the local operators have to improve the situation for him and his constituents.”
James will continue to press ministers to deliver a robust action plan and ensure that local passengers receive the reliable service they deserve.
