As part of his ongoing commitment to help more people into work and support local employers, James Wild MP visited the Seetec Employer Hub in King’s Lynn to discuss the support available to residents in North West Norfolk who face challenges entering or returning to the workforce.
During the visit, he met Laura Wilson, Business Manager for King’s Lynn, along with local employers, Jobcentre Plus representatives, self-employment advisers, and training staff. Together, they discussed how Seetec and its partners are working collaboratively to support individuals in overcoming common barriers to employment. These can include access to childcare, limited transport options, ongoing health conditions, low confidence, and the need to refresh or develop key skills.
In a roundtable discussion with clients and employers, James heard how personalised support is helping people take positive steps towards employment. This includes help with CVs and cover letters, interview preparation, and building confidence, practical tools that make a real difference to jobseekers.
While unemployment in North West Norfolk remains below the national average, many local employers continue to face recruitment challenges and skills shortages. Programmes like Seetec’s play an important role in addressing these issues by helping people access new opportunities and supporting the needs of the local economy.
The visit was part of James’ wider engagement with local employment and skills initiatives, such as the Norfolk for Jobs programme. These efforts aim to bring together employers, Jobcentre Plus, and training providers to better understand the challenges in the local labour market and explore ways to support people into work.
Seetec client, Shaun, said:
"Without Seetec, I wouldn't be where I am. They took time to listen to me and understand my health conditions. I wouldn't have thought about being a teaching assistant as I didn't think I had the skills, but my adviser, Asta, took the time to go through my personal experiences with me. Now I have been accepted at a local school. I am very happy"
Speaking after the visit, James Wild MP said:
"It was encouraging to see how Seetec and its partners are providing targeted support that's making a real difference, whether helping with childcare, transport or health challenges.
Equipping residents with skills and confidence while helping employers access local talent is important to North West Norfolk's economy and helping more people into work. I remain committed to working with organisations like Seetec and initiatives such as Norfolk for Jobs to ensure everyone has the chance to succeed."
