James Wild MP has backed his colleague George Freeman MP’s Flooding Bill, which was introduced to Parliament this week to tackle the growing crisis of inland flooding. As a co-sponsor of the Bill, James has worked closely with George and colleagues on flood resilience including through the Norfolk Strategic Flooding Alliance.
The Bill would clarify responsibilities for inland flood prevention, require government reporting on Local Flood Authority and Internal Drainage Board funding, enforce developer liability for drainage failures within 5-10 years of construction, recognise IDB pumps as critical national infrastructure, mandate digital flood mapping, and propose a Flood Compensation Fund for homeowners with unsellable properties due to flooding.
