James Wild MP, Member of Parliament for North West Norfolk, has backed the Conservative Party’s Cheap Power Plan which would cut the average household energy bill by £200 and strengthen the UK’s energy security.
Families and businesses in North West Norfolk are continuing to face high energy and fuel costs. Recent volatility in global energy markets has added to that pressure and underlined the importance of secure domestic energy supplies.
That is why the Conservatives are setting out a Cheap Power Plan to cut the average household energy bill by £200 and strengthen the UK’s energy security.
Firstly, the plan would remove VAT from household energy bills for three years, cut carbon taxes, and scrap green levies which add to energy costs. This would help bring down bills for households and businesses.
Secondly, it would back more domestic energy production in the North Sea, scrap the Energy Profits Levy, and support more nuclear power. The Get Britain Drilling Bill would cut the legal barriers holding back new oil and gas projects, support investment in domestic production, and help secure cheaper, more reliable energy for families and businesses over the long term.
Finally, it would stop the government’s planned 5p fuel duty rise from September. James has already opposed the rise in Parliament as the first increase in fuel duty for 15 years and warned that it would hit families and businesses, especially in rural areas where many people rely on their car or van.
Commenting, James Wild MP said:
“Families and businesses across North West Norfolk are under real pressure from high energy and fuel costs.
“Government cannot control every global pressure on prices, but it certainly can stop adding to the burden through higher taxes and extra costs on bills.
“That is why I back the Conservative Cheap Power Plan to cut costs for households and firms, strengthen our energy security, and support jobs here in Norfolk and across the UK.”
