James Wild MP - New Deal for Young People Survey

These are tough times for young people looking to make a start in life.

Many are doing the right thing by studying, training, or applying for jobs, and still face a tough labour market and little return for their efforts.

That is why the Conservative Party has launched the New Deal for Young People to help fix the current system. It is a three-point plan to cut student loan interest, boost apprenticeships, and provide a First Job Bonus of £5,000 to get young people back into work and restore the link between hard work and reward.

This short survey focuses on your experiences finding work, training, and opportunity and your answers will help inform how I represent young people locally and in Parliament.

I would be very grateful if you could spare 5-10 minutes to answer the following questions.

  • National Issues
  • Your details
How old are you?
Q1. In your opinion, over the last 12-18 months, has it become harder or easier for young people to find work?
Q3. As part of the new Deal, interest on Plan 2 student loans would be capped at inflation only (ending the extra 3% interest), to reduce the long term cost of borrowing for graduates. How do you feel about this change?
Q4. The Deal would introduce an Apprenticeship Guarantee, with 100,000 fully funded places each year for 18–21 year olds, alongside a £5,000 employer incentive. How attractive would an apprenticeship be to you?
Q5. The Deal includes a £5,000 “First Job Bonus”, with the first £5,000 of National Insurance redirected into a personal savings account. How helpful would this be in helping you build savings or get ahead when starting work?
Q6. What would you want to use a £5,000 savings pot for?
Q7. Looking ahead, how confident do you feel about your chances of finding a job that you want (or progressing in your job) in the next 12 months?
