James Wild MP 2025 Autumn Budget Survey

Budget Survey Graphic

The Chancellor's Budget on 26 November set out a further £26 billion in tax rises including income tax threshold freezes and new charges on pensions and savings.

I am concerned about the pressure these changes will place on people, households, and businesses in our area and I will continue to challenge measures that do not serve North West Norfolk's interests. That is why I am launching this survey to gather your views on key budget measures.

1) The Budget will freeze income tax thresholds for three years until 2031 pulling more people into higher tax brackets as wages rise. Do you agree or disagree with this measure?
2) The Budget will increase rates of income tax on savings by 2%. From 6 April 2027, the basic rate will be 22% (currently, 20%), the higher rate 42% (40%) and the additional rate 47% (45%). Do you agree or disagree with this measure?
3) From April 2029, salary-sacrificed pension contributions above £2,000 a year will no longer be exempt from NICs. Do you think this change will affect your ability to save for retirement or make pension saving less attractive?
3b) BUSINESSES ONLY: Do you have concerns for how this change might impact your business and its operations?
4) The Budget will remove the two-child benefit cap from April 2026 meaning families receiving Universal Credit or tax credits will be able to claim additional support for every child, not just the first two. Do you agree with this change?
5) The Budget confirms plans to levy inheritance tax on agricultural holdings commonly known as the family farm tax. Do you agree with the introduction of this change?
6) The Budget unfreezes Fuel Duty. The OBR confirm Fuel Duty will rise after September 2026. Do you support this measure?
7) BUSINESSES ONLY: The Budget confirms the removal of the 40% business rates discount for retail, hospitality, and leisure firms. How much is your bill set to increase by?
9) Overall, on a scale of 1-5 (with 1 being NOT happy and 5 being VERY happy), how happy are you with the Budget?
